Soloist(s), Choir, and/or Congregation Composed: 2012 Published by: Zimbel PressThese three brief pieces were inspired by the Shakers, whose many thousands of songs were sung unaccompanied. For the first hundred years of their society, Shaker songs were always monophonic. Though the music of these monodies is not in a Shaker style, they are meant to be sung by soloists, choirs, and/or congregations without accompaniment. Minimum order quantity: 8 copies. Perusal copies are available by contacting carson@carsoncooman.com (include the organization name with your request). To order quantities fewer than 8.

The most standard instrumentation for voicing is violin, viola, and cello. However, three of the same instruments work well as do other groupings, given that the higher-pitched instrument plays the higher part. This three-part format follows a standard order: part 1 is melody, part 2 is harmony, and part 3 is a traditional bass line. Optional 8va markings are sometimes given to help the voicings sound better. The selections have been arranged in alphabetic order. The melodies, both sacred and secular, cover many centuries and originate in Western Europe and the United States. Each work is in the public domain and was selected for both its quality and musical interest.Arranged specifically for a chamber setting, the trios may be performed in a variety of venues from church services to holiday gatherings. Some repeats are marked in the music, but any selection may be repeated for the appropriate amount of music needed. Bowings have been added as suggestions, and some fingerings have been added to show the direction of shifts beyond first position.—Todd ParrishOrchestra Editor, Carl Fischer MusicJune 2021.

Volume 12 in the series contains works by great composers adapted for four cellos. They all share a festive mood. Beethoven's variations on the theme of the British nation anthem 'God Save the King' are followed by 'The Shepherds' Farewell' from Berlioz' oratorio The Childhood of Christ, and three Christmas pieces by Mendelssohn. The excerpt from Wagner's Parsifal - excellently transcribed by Hermann Jacobowsky at the end of the 19th century - is associated with Good Friday, but because of its sacred character its mood blends with that of the preceding pieces.Inhoud:1. Beethoven, Ludwig van: God Save the KingThema und Variationen2. Berlioz, Hector: The shepherds farewell3. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Felix: 3 Christmas pieces4. Sommaire:1.
