Format : Vocal Score
Adapted from the writings of Helen Keller Andrea Ramsey drafted a wonderful piece of hope for The Arkansas Tech University Concert Chorale. Describing the text in music ranges from haunting passages of darkness to rhythmicallyvibrant awakenings of understanding and light. Although destined for the concert halls of high school and college choirs a good church choir would find it fitting in worship as well.

Recorded by superstars Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda, this uplifting dance track delivers a message of love, compassion, and courage in the face of darkness. Perky choral rhythms and notated vocal percussion give this contemporary a cappella setting a strong pop pulse! The inspiring, rapid-fire rap solo in the bridge creates a dynamic transition to the final all-in chorus.

In 2014, Chanticleer commissioned me to make a new arrangement of the Hungarian-Romani folk song Jarba, Mare Jarba for their 2014 touring program. Passed down orally through the Romani communities, this beautiful folk song, with text in a language called Beas (beh-osh), speaks of a deep longing to visit one's homeland, a place where the singer can never return. Chanticleer consists of twelve men whose vocal ranges span from low bass to high soprano, equivalent to the range of a mixed choir of women and men. I composed slow sections of original material to represent the singers' longing to return home; these are interspersed with the folk song's traditional fast sections. The incorporated shouts and calls in the score are typically found in the performance of Central European folk songs. I hope you enjoy singing this new version of Jarba, Mare Jarba that contains all of the vigor and excitement of the Chanticleer version. PERFORMANCE NOTES All spoken sounds (indicated by x noteheads) should be performed by individuals. Feel free to elaborate with more sounds of your own in the tradition of Eastern European folk music. If the piece is memorized, feel free to experiment with clapping on the off-beats of m. 93 to the end. Among his compositions, Franz Lachner, the long-serving Music Director of the Court of Munich and Director of the Royal Choir, left behind a considerable number of sacred works, including two settings of the Stabat Mater. The first Stabat Mater, op. 154, from 1856 was strictly for a vocal ensemble; the second, op. 168, from 1870 (see p. 5) included strings and organ, in which the darker timbre was achieved through the absence of the violins. In its harmonic expression the second composition is especially oriented towards the, at that time, modern style of the North German School centred around Liszt and Wagner, but without ever exceeding a moderate degree of technical difficulty in the voice parts. Score available separately - see item CA.7003700.

Lent & Easter Musical Not 'Who Was Jesus?' but 'Who Is Jesus?' The question is asked in the present tense because it's Christ's interaction with our lives in the here and now that is the focus of this 30 minute Tenebrae service. The events of Holy Week are presented through enticing arrangements of familiar hymns and spirituals plus narration, culminating with the crucifixion story in a moving rendition of 'O Sacred Head, Now Wounded. ' There are opportunities to include vocal solos, as well as, congregational singing. The accompaniment can be provided by piano, CD track, or a chamber ensemble of five instruments. A further option is an organ part that can work with just piano or can be added to the chamber instruments. Finally, there are instructions for lighting and extinguishing seven candles ending in darkness with all softly singing of the first verse of 'Fairest Lord Jesus. 'Instrumental Parts: Conductor's Score, Organ, Flute, Oboe, Violin,Cello and Horn in F.

Charles Gounod composed this Requiem under the impact of the death of his four-year-old grandson, Maurice. According to information handed down, while finishing the details of this work he was overtaken by death. It was published posthumously in various constellations by his pupil, Henri Busser, but the only complete version from the pen of Gounod is the version for large orchestra, which is published here for the first time in a critical edition. Gounod's Requiem, unlike many contemporary settings of the Mass of the Dead, is not characterized by darkness and terror. Rather, with all of its trepidation - expressed through a marked chromaticism - an atmosphere of hopeful expectation, of trust in the grace and equity of the divine judge predominates. This confidence finds its expression in the choice of the fundamental key of C major, which is rather unusual for a requiem. The work was given an impressive performance on the occasion of the first anniversary of Gounod's death in the Parisian church of Sainte-Madeleine under the direction of Gabriel Fauré and it was highly acclaimed by the contemporary press. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2731500.
