Trio sonata A major op. 5/1

The Trio Sonata HWV 405 was almost certainly composed during Handel’s years in Italy 1707-1710 and is therefore a relatively early work. Only in recent years has a complete text of this sonata been established.

Thus it comes as no surprise that many of the pieces in this volume are arrangements by Bach of original compositions and of works by other composers. Next to the Sonatas BWV 525?530 and the Concertos or concerto movements based on pieces by other composers BWV 592?596, the volume also contains the Trio in D minor BWV 583, the Trio settings BWV 585?587 as well as the early versions of BWV 527 and 528. Moreover, the CD-ROM offers eight arrangements of trio movements by Bach made by others. In his detailed introduction, Pieter Dirksen discusses various aspects of these pieces' origins, inasmuch as they help us better understand the works. The organist will especially welcome the comments on performance practice and registration. It is precisely the fact that these works derive from chamber-music models that leads to individual considerations for each work group.

Sonata in D major TWV 41:D9 - Sonata in G major TWV 41:G9-These three editions (BA 5880 BA 5889 BA 5890) each comprising two solo sonatas with basso continuo are all taken from Telemann’s famous Essercizii musici; a collection of 24 sonatas including 12 solo sonatas and 12 trio sonatas. These were moulded after Corelli’s Sonata da Chiesa and have four movements: slow-fast-slow-fast. The sonatas long thought to stem from the late 1730s are now believed to have first been published by the composer in approx. 1729. Telemann's Trio Sonata In C Major for two Treble Recorders or Flutes and Continuo.

Sonate en trio BWV Le 1038 est la première édition de musique de chambre pour flûte de Johann Sebastian Bach que Barthold Kuijken a préparé. Les chercheurs ont longtemps douté de la paternité de ce travail pour des raisons stylistiques, même si les pièces de performance de la principale source ont été écrits par Bach lui-même, mais malheureusement il a oublié, ou n'ont pas jugé nécessaire, d'ajouter son nom à la musique. Kuijken roule quelques arguments convaincants qui réfutent la thèse selon laquelle le jeune Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach a travaillé sur la version trio de la Sonate pour violon BWV 1022.
