Triptykon for Percussion and Orchestra was composed by Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen in 1985. Dedicated to Gert Mortensen. Programme note: TRIPTYKON is inspired by the visual arts (a triptych is a painting on three panels, hinged side by side - for instance an altarpiece). The three movements of TRIPTYKON are composed in an eff ort to create clear contrasts of colour. The first movement employs only winds in the orchestra, the second movement only strings, and in the third movement the first two movements are repeated, on top of each other, played simultaneously. Tue percussion solo part has equally distinct colours: for the first movement: metal only, for the second movement: woodonly, and then finally in the third movement- together with the orchestral tutti - skin! Other distinct features in TRIPTYKON are block-like dispositions, polyrhythmic layers and simplicity of tonal colours. Tue often crude articulation of motifs and the frequent use ofrepetition lend a ritual character to the music. TRIPTYKON was composed in close collaboration with percussionist Gert Mortensen and the work is dedicated to him.

Triptykon / Triptych for Organ solo by Niels Rosing-Schow. Triptych is written for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017, commissioned by The Danish Society of Organists and Cantors. From the preface: The three movements of the work are musical images or situations, with the middle one, Toccata, as its axis. The latter is intended as an image of the dispute between Luther and the ecclesiastical authorities, which is the origin of the Reformation. Two of Luther's Reformation Hymns are more or less palpably present in the music. The other two movements can be regarded as 'before' and 'after'. The first, Exordium, is a 'fluid' situation, but also a preparation, which gradually accumulates a suspense pointing towards the discharge of energy of the Toccata. The third movement, Hymn, represents a serene situation, where a wealth of hymnal fragments grows out of an underlying structure, repeated several times(technically speaking, a passacaglia). César Francks Klaviertriptychon Prélude, Choral et Fugue (FWV 21/CFF 24) aus dem Jahre 1884 gilt als seine bekannteste und bedeutendste Klavierkomposition. Zudem vermag sie seiner Orgelmusik aber auch Klangwelten und Satztechniken zu erschließen, die César Franck selbst zu seinen Lebzeiten noch nicht glaubte beschreiten zu dürfen und die erst von Charles-Marie Widor, Marcel Dupré und anderen zu voller Entfaltung entwickelt wurden. A triptych is a three-part altarpiece. In the middle of these fantasies for viola stands a biblical psalm, on the sides each a poem from the 20th century, which refers to psalms. After Georg Trakl's De Profundis, the first fantasy captures the lonely landscape at the beginning of the poem and the yearning voice of the orphan girl. In the second fantasy (after the 23rd Psalm Davids) pastoral-comforting mood frames the heaviness of the Wandering in the dark valley. The third fantasy of Paul Celan's Psalm lets the music emerge from the void, unfolding a melody with discreet allusions to psalmodody and Jewish music, which, despite shadowy clouding, ultimately allows for flowering (above the thorn).
