Poul Ruders ' two Piano pieces Star Prelude And Love Fugue from 1990, expertly arranged for Saxophone Quartet by Jesper Nordin. Programme note Star Prelude and Love Fugue is the fruit of “a wonderful stay in Tokyo in March 1988” (the composer's words). The two pieces were composed in February 1990, and they are dedicated to Japanese pianist Aki Takahashi, who gave the premiere performance at the Lerchenborg Musikdage on 3 August 1990. The prelude is a fantasia on the prelude of Act Two of Poul Ruders' opera Tycho (1986), about Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (which should explain the title). The theme of the Love Fugueis taken from the opening bars of anotherearlier Ruders' work, namely the a cappella motet Charitas Nunquam Excidit (which is Latin for “love never ceases”). The following fugue is purged of the genre's traditional gravitas, as is already signalled by the expression mark 'Swinging'. César Francks Klaviertriptychon Prélude, Choral et Fugue (FWV 21/CFF 24) aus dem Jahre 1884 gilt als seine bekannteste und bedeutendste Klavierkomposition. Dieses bedeutende Triptychon wird geprägt durch einen dichten, von der Orgel beeinflussten Klaviersatz. In der Orgelbearbeitung wird daher die charakteristische Tonsprache von Francks originalen Orgelkompositionen deutlich erkennbar. Zudem vermag sie seiner Orgelmusik aber auch Klangwelten und Satztechniken zu erschließen, die César Franck selbst zu seinen Lebzeiten noch nicht glaubte beschreiten zu dürfen und die erst von Charles-Marie Widor, Marcel Dupré und anderen zu voller Entfaltung entwickelt wurden. Die Registrierungshinweise orientieren sich am Klangspektrum der Cavaillé-Coll-Orgel und den Dispositionsgepflogenheiten Francks in dessen Originalwerken. (Otto Depenheuer).

A triptych is a three-part altarpiece. In the middle of these fantasies for viola stands a biblical psalm, on the sides each a poem from the 20th century, which refers to psalms. After Georg Trakl's De Profundis, the first fantasy captures the lonely landscape at the beginning of the poem and the yearning voice of the orphan girl. In the second fantasy (after the 23rd Psalm Davids) pastoral-comforting mood frames the heaviness of the Wandering in the dark valley. The third fantasy of Paul Celan's Psalm lets the music emerge from the void, unfolding a melody with discreet allusions to psalmodody and Jewish music, which, despite shadowy clouding, ultimately allows for flowering (above the thorn).
