No.42 (In the Alps) could perhaps best be described as a melodrama. It combines many of the subjects that fascinate me: the relationship of text narrative and musical narrative, the history of opera, early cinema, the theatrical practices of the nineteenthcentury, along with the folk and popular music of the Alpine region. A girl (the soprano), stranded on top of an un-climbable mountain peak as a young baby, is taught to sing by the mountain animals. Young Bobli lives in the village far below the un-climbable peak. He was born mute and communicates with the world by playing the trumpet. Bobli hears the soprano's song drifting down into the valley. The soprano listens to Bobli's trumpet tunes blown up to her by the wind. They are both enchanted. The three acts are separated by interludes describing how three animals experience time passing in relation to a musical tempo. Like any self respecting melodrama the text and music combine to depict or imply a wide ranging theatrical adventure, in this piece starting at the Creation (or the big bang), a lonely existence, scenes of rustic village life, some carpentry, many mountain goats, unrequited love, and ending in a quest destined to fail. In a live performance the text [provided with the performance material] isto be projected on a screen behind the musicians in the style of silent movie intertitles. Richard Ayres.

Bleak Forest is a piece for smaller concert bands and offers the musicians above all space to improve their sound and their effect playing. The technical requirements are therefore deliberately kept low. With this piece, the composer won the VLAMO International Composition Contest 2022. Thematically, the work is influenced by the composer's childhood memories. In his hometown there was a dark and mysterious forest, that seemed to the children in the small village to be magical. Without a reasonable explanation, every trip into the woods was exciting and somewhat terrifying. There were tales of dangerous animals, which can be heard at the beginning of the piece, as well as magical beasts. The magic of the forest is depicted musically from bar 70 in the andante section. The snapping of the fingers represents single raindrops. From bar 99 onwards, we hear the trek home, with the occasional moments of trepidation as the children spook each other with their fanciful tales. In the end, though, we arrive safely at home because after all, magical beasts only exist in fairy tales don’t they? Andreas Ziegelbäck studied music education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and history at the Paris Lodron Universität, Salzburg. In addition to his studies, he trained in ensemble conducting for wind orchestra with conductor and composer Thomas Doss. It was Doss who sparked Ziegelbäck's interest in composing. In 2021, Andreas Ziegelbäck completed his composition studies with Johannes Maria Staud. In 2020, he took part in a brass band composition masterclass in Bern with Oliver Waespi, followed by a premiere by the Swiss Army Brass Band.

The purpose of this book is to give beginning musicians the opportunity to play together. Elementary piano players have few opportunities of being part of an ensemble which is both inspirational and fun. It will help develop aural awareness and other ensemble playing skills which can, all too often, be found lacking in performers who most frequently play and practise solo. These trios are playable by any player with 2-3 years? experience.Titles: Foreign Lands * Playing Tag * Milonga * Village Dance *Djibouti Spring.

Subtitled “Picturesof Pagan Russia,†the ancient scenes were evoked using contemporary musical innovations, shattering expectations of a more traditional Ballet Russe production. How was an ancient ritual of sacrifice to the earth to be scored? The unevolved pesantecharacter of a village gathering was portrayed by odd time signatures and accents. Melodieswere geometrically woven as dissonant pastorales with grace-notes mimicking gutturalbreaks in primal voices. Instruments were orchestrated against the grain, straining soundsinto unrecognizable timbres. And just like the dancers on stage, musicians were organizedinto alternating groups often clashing with one another.One-hundred plus years later, the music still incites the senses. Both movements may beplayed alone, and the first movement may also serve as a solo piece.

This tender, flowing waltz conveys a sense of peaceful nostalgia, reflecting his family's long association with the pastoral village of Waterford, Maine. This enchanting piece provides an opportunity for young string players to master graceful phrasing and smooth legato bowing. Totally approachable for intermediate players, yet appropriately challenging for more advanced musicians, it includes a delightful optional harp/piano part. An original fiddle waltz, written to celebrate the wedding of the composer's daughter, this piece will transport audiences and complement any string orchestra program.

A CD that includes four great works by Franco Cesarini performed by the Civica Filarmonica di Lugano under the direction of the Maestro. Passacaglia and Fugue in C-minor BWV 582 In Franco CesariniÂ’s arrangement for large wind orchestra, the particularly careful interpretation of the original piece enables him to exploit all the sound colors at his disposal, and in this sumptuous guise Bach's work also takes on a grandiose dimension, albeittinged with late-Romanticism. A masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach superbly arranged for wind orchestra. Sinfonietta No. 3 “Zwölfmalgreien Sketchesâ€, Op. 56 In composing the Sinfonietta No. 3 , Franco Cesarini was inspired by the history of the municipality of Zwölfmalgreien, made up of various towns, villages and scattered districts which were incorporated to the City of Bolzano (Italy) over one hundred years ago. The peculiarity of these places, different from each other, but all characterized by rare beauty, have contributed to create this 3-mouvement work (City Life, Mountain Shadows and Classic Wineyards), which translates into music the activities of the villages, the winter days and the lively atmosphere in the wine regions. A perfect trip to this wonderful part of Italy! Suite Siciliana, Op. 57b The Suite Siciliana, a 7-movement piece - Intrada , Pavana, Gavotta, Barcarola , Tambourin , Sicilianaand Tarantella - is characterised by contrasting rhythms and tempo and consists of these 7 dances. The musical form, typical of the Baroque period, refers to some traditional expressions of art from the land of Sicily: ranging from the rich architecture of the Sicilian Baroque to the colorful majolica ceramics and the characteristic puppets, the “pupiâ€, which narrate a secular tradition. A full immersion into ancient traditions of this beautiful island! Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapesâ€, Op. 55 Fascinated by the beauty of Chicago, Franco Cesarini has translated his emotions into music: this is how was born Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes†, a musical portrait of this metropolis overlooking Lake Michigan. The composition is divided into three movements - The Wrigley Building from Dawn to Noon , Blue Silhouette and Cloud Gate - which by sharing the same thematic material arranged in cyclical form, strengthen the overall cohesion of the piece. Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapesâ€, a sumptuous musical portrait of the “Windy Cityâ€. Civica Filarmonica di Lugano Since its foundation in 1830, Civica Filarmonica di Lugano has performed at diverging events, varying from large gatherings to international jury performances. The Civica Filarmonica di Lugano is one of SwitzerlandÂ’s oldest and most prestigious music societies and consists of approximately 70 musicians. The Civica Filarmonica gives about 20 concerts a year, both at the city's concert halls and the Piazza della Riforma, the square in Lugano that.

'Bartók wrote the first dance around the time of the Romanian movements of the 'Seven Sketches', after his first trip collecting Romanian folk music in July-August 1909. The second dance is the fruit of March the following year, and it was only after some time he decided they should be published as a pair. From the beginning, audiences were impressed by the first dance, in the composer's peculiar performance, with its initial drumming, and its driving rhythms. If less popular, compositionally the second dance is more original. He parades and varies his material in a chain form, and this too is reminiscent of the dances heard in the playing of Romanian Transylvanian villagemusicians, which in his scholarly work Bartók called 'motive dances.' TheKleine geistliche Konzerte(Small Sacred Concertos), published in two parts in 1636 and1639, are among the best-known and well-loved compositions of Heinrich Schutz. Both parts constitute a collection of vocal pieces in a broad range of styles written for only a few voices with basso continuo. Most of the texts are in German, but some are also in Latin. The first volume presents a broad spectrum of vocal scoring, musical forms and texts: there are solo concertos in the Italian style, traditional four-part motets, well-known Psalm texts set to music, hymns as well as mystically contemplative meditative literature. The concertos' monodic qualities and high level of virtuosity - especially in the compositions with German text - made Schutz a household name shortly after theKleine geistliche Konzertewere published in print. As the works required no large ensembles, they could be performed for different occasions and in various locations; particularly during the Thirty Years' War they could be heard at court, in cities or in villages but also in schools or at home.Unlike the 1963 edition of theKleine geistliche Konzerte(BA 3664, BA 3665, BA 3666) as part of the New Schutz Edition, this new volume presents the works for the first time in their original form and order. A historic-critical evaluation of all relevant sources yields new information regarding the composer's intentions, the printing process and the works' reception. Furthermore, the edition includes a reconstruction of an earlier version that has not been published until now. This edition is geared towards musicologists, as well as professional musicians and amateurs with a keen interest in early music.
