One of the world’s most salient features is that there is so much trouble, but one of the world’s deepest hopes is for something better. The tension between these two ideas is the binding theme of this collection of choral works. The centerpiece of the collection, Knut Nystedt’s Prayers of Kierkegaard, is surrounded by a myriad of contemporary settings of American folk songs and spirituals. The contemplation of trouble and transcendence heard throughout these songs is given a fitting response in Shawn Kirchner’s joyful work I’ll Be on My Way. This disc is a meditative and healing listen in the midst of difficult times. The Missouri State University Chorale is the flagship choral ensemble at Missouri State University. Made up of a diverse group of singers from a variety of backgrounds, this renowned ensemble performs at an incredibly high level and enjoys an international reputation. The MSU Chorale has performed regularly at conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, Missouri Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, and has toured throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Cameron F. LaBarr is director of choral studies at Missouri State University, where he leads a comprehensive choral program including eight choirs and a graduate program in choral conducting. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Missouri State University and earned a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas. Additionally, Dr. LaBarr has completed further study in choral music and conducting with Simon Carrington and Alice Parker. Dr. LaBarr has worked as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator across North America, Europe, Africa and Asia, recently at the China International Chorus Festival, the Bali International Choir Festival, and the Limerick Sings International Choral Festival (Ireland).

The sonatas are not grouped according to their degree of difficulty, they are given in the order which corresponds with the Kirkpatrick nimbering. This is approximately identical with the order in which they were composed. In this way it became possible for the pairs of sonatas included in the selection to be placed closely after one another. Apart from inevitable minor alterations this edition follows the original text and its markings exactly. This does not apply to the fingering which is entirely an editorial addition. (In the original there is no fingering.) ABRSM Cello Syllabus title, 2011, Grade 7.

â??Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) is known for his unique composition style. Incorporating complex rhythms, harmony, melodies and his passion for ornithology, his Catalogue of Birds for Piano is no exception to the composer's popular, distinctive style. Messiaen became fascinated by birdsong from an early age, however, it wasn't until the 1950s that he took his passion to a new level, incorporating birdsong into all of his compositions. Catalogue of Birds, composed in 1958, comprises thirteen movements, each depicting a specific bird. The third volume contains movements five and six; Tawny Owl and Woodlark. Catalogue of Birds is essential to all advanced pianists seeking to expand and vary their repertoire.â?.
