arranged for Oboe and Piano-The Oboe Quartet in F major K. 370/368b was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in early 1781. The quartet originally arranged for oboe violin viola and cello is presented in this edition for Oboe with Piano accompaniment. In 1780 Mozart was invited to Munich to visit Elector Karl Theodor who had commissioned the opera Idomeneo for a carnival celebration. While in Munich Mozart renewed an acquaintance with Friedrich Ramm a virtuoso oboist in the Munich orchestra. It was for Ramm that Mozart composed the quartet in order to show off his virtuosity and the improvements that had been made to the oboe at that time. One way that this piece showed off theinstrument was the use of the 'high F' above the staff a note rarely played in any repertoire previously written for the oboe. This piece is a work of chamber music but it has elements that harken to other musical genres and requires a fair amount of virtuosity. Because of its large amount of virtuosic playing on the part of the oboe and the large degree to which the strings simply accompany the oboist it almost resembles a concerto but with only with four players instead of an entire orchestra. Despite this there are also a number of places within the work that require ensemble playing for example the famous 13-bar passage in the finale in which the oboe plays in common time against a 6/8 accompaniment.

Alla Turca. Published in 1784, Mozart?s Sonata in A major ?for clavier solo?, with its famous ?Alla Turca? finale, is one of the most popular works in the entire piano literature. After a section of the lost autograph was rediscovered a few years ago, another important source has surfaced with the appearance of a previously unknown contemporary copy of the complete autograph, which has prompted Bärenreiter to issue an up-to-date Urtext edition of this celebrated piece. The copy by a professional Viennese copyist throws new light on the problem of the numerous discrepancies between autographs and first editions of many Mozart sonatas. It supports the assumption that the revision of the text for the first edition resulted from the change of target group from Mozart's inner circle to an audience of connoisseurs and amateurs, but that this did not render the original (autograph) text obsolete: rather, both versions of the sonata represent historical realities. To achieve a truly faithful scholarly-critical performance edition of Mozart's sonata, the editor, Mario Aschauer, has set new editorial standards and offers the most innovative methodological approach of our time by presenting the musical text of the autograph and the original print separately without merging the sources editorially to a new text. On the basis of the newly discovered source, it is possible for the first time to reconstruct the autograph transmission of this famous sonata and offer it to the performer as a self-contained playable version. The preface allows surprising new insights into the form and source situation of the sonata (Ger / Eng). The edition is supplemented by a chapter on performance practice providing in-depth information on piano playing in Mozart?s time (Ger / Eng). Piano Sonata in F major K. 533/494-Mozart assembled this sonata from two parts that had been composed at different times. The Rondo K. 494 is from 1786. It was only in January 1788 that Mozart composed the two pieces K. 533 and had Hoffmeister in Vienna publishthe three movements as a sonata. To this end he did however thoroughly rework the Rondo incorporating a small fugue-like passage - perhaps to bring the finale closer to the other two movements. In its final version the workshows how intensively Mozart had looked into the style of Bach and Handel at the time. Henle are now offering this sonata included in the complete volume as an attractive single edition with a new preface by the editor.
