Heinios Symphony No. 2 'Songs of Night and Love' is reminiscent more of a song cycle; it has a baritone soloist in each of its movements. The texts are based on sensual poems by Lassi Nummi. Night or love, or both together are fundamental themes running throughout the symphony. Its dream-like landscapes are dominated by quiet and lyrical tones but the finale has the heat of dark Mediterranean nights.

Victoria Yagling's Suite for Cello and String Orchestra (1967) is one of her first successes as a composer. The movement layout of the Suite is fast-slow-fast-slow. The first movement, Toccata, is a perpetual motion with a brisk tempo of 100 per dotted half. The Aria is reminiscent of Rachmaninov's Vocalise melody and Prokofiev's tonal language. This movement is the centerpiece of the Suite. The Humoresque is closely connected in style and motives to the March and Aria movements from Boris Tchaikovsky's Suite for Cello Solo. Mostly homophonic Finale plays with bitonality and contains several circle-of-fifth sequences. This product is is the reduction for violoncello and piano by prof. Yuriy Leonovich. Orchestral material available on hire from the publisher. Stydy score with solo part is available for sale (ISMN 9790550116436).Victoria Yagling (1946?2011) was born in Russia and lived in Finland since 1990. Her long career as a cellist served as an excellent accompaniment to the composition she began at an early age. For 11 years she was a cello student of Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory and Dmitry Kabalevsky and Tikhon Khrennikov taught her composition.Yagling won the first prize in the Gaspar Cassadò Cello Competition and the following year the second prize in the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition. Her solo engagements took her to countless countries. She has also taught at several international music courses and master classes and was often a jury member for international cello competitions.Yagling left a profilic oeuvre, and the three cello concertos are her main works. Her other orchestral works include Finnish Notebook, Lyrical Preludes and the Suite for Cello and String Orchestra. She has also composed solo works (e.g. the Suite for Cello Solo No. 1 chosen as an obligatory piece for the 7th Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982), chamber works, including two string quartets, and vocal music. Her expressive, romantically orientated style is Russian in spirit and has grown out of the soil provided by Prokofiev and Shostakovich.

Ever wonder what it was like on that one starry night in Bethlehem long ago? That night when angels sang, shepherds rejoiced, and a young couple gazed at their precious, newborn baby boy. You may think you’ve heard it all before; that you know all there is to know about that night and that special baby’s birth. But until you’ve heard the story told by the animals who were there with Mary and Joseph, you just might be missing an important perspective on all that happened that first Christmas night! Now you can hear all about it in Raad Tidings We Bring…The Animals’ Christmas Story, new, from Christy and Daniel Semsen! The Animals’ Christmas Story begins with two revered “old-timersâ€â€¦ two celebrated “senior citizens†of the animal community in Bethlehem. Meet Ruthie and Eleanor; one, a wise old donkey, the other, a shall we say, long-in-the-tooth, camel, both reminiscing about the night when Christ was born. Our two old friends are joined throughout the musical by others who all came together to experience this miraculous birth. You’ll hear from birds on their way to Bethlehem for the census, meet theater mice and a thespian cat who entertain guests at the inn, and be introduced to a super-smart sheepdog and a super-chill flock of sheep- you know, those sheep who saw the angels on the hillside, outside of Bethlehem! Raad Tidings We Bring… The Animals’ Christmas Story, is a paws-i-tively amazing, meow-fully wonderful, hee-haw-fully marvelous re-telling of God’s love story…the story of a Savior, the story of redemption, the story of Christmas!

The cantata cycle Die Tageszeiten, which was composed in Hamburg in 1757, is one of the outstanding late works of Georg Philipp Telemann. A Symphonie and four cantatas (each of which consists of an aria, accompagnato, aria, and chorus) portray, in a richly sensitive manner, the course of a day, beginning with the awakening of nature to the sunset. The poetry of Friedrich Wilhelm Zachariae and Telemann's music herald the beauty of nature, as well as the greatness of God revealed within it. Colorful instrumentation and pictures in sound corresponding to each time of the day, delicate compositional structure, and an ingenious realization of the text characterize this work, whose musical idiom is at times reminiscent of Haydn. Score available separately - see item CA.3913700.

The form of this work is not so much based on the classical symphony, but is closer to a song cycle structure which has now grown toinclude 13 movements for choir and orchestra. The Romantic characteristics and form of the 8th Symphony are both reminiscent of Gustav Mahlers choral symphonic works and his Lied von der Erde. Krzysztof Penderecki here extends and augments his expressive musical material, for example through cluster techniques and glissandi, possibilities which he has been systematically exploring since the 1950s. He has compiled the texts from poetry by Eichendorff, Rilke, Brecht, Kraus, Hesse, Goethe, Bethge and von Arnim on the theme of forests and trees, which has long been close to his heart as demonstrated by his private arboretum near Luslavice ('my personal Ithaca') containing over 1500 species of trees.

During the Jazz age of the 1920's, the cat's pajamas referred to anything special, unique or cool. Musically speaking, the image of a cat in pajamas might suggest combining low clarinets (reminiscent of Prokofiev's use of a clarinet to describe the cat in Peter And The Wolf) with a jaunty little tune in ragtime style, adding a few instrumental meows, and you have (what else?): The Cat’s Pajamas: A Felicitous Feline Ragtime Novelty! Audiences and performers will love it from head to tail!

Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002) was a prolific composer who drew his inspiration from a variety of sources, some Catalan, some Latin, most notably: his fondness for the Groupe des Six, Stravinsky's rhythms, his admiration for Ravel and his interactions with Olivier Messiaen. His Sonatine pour Yvette, written in 1962, which shows clear post-impressionist influences, with a level of virtuosity reminiscent of Liszt, is dedicated to Gonzalo Soriano, one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Its title evokes the name of the composers daughter, Yvette. Introduction and notes on interpretation in French and English by Florence Ribot.

This piece is reminiscent of the great groove master, tenor saxophonist Eddie Harris. He was a very independent-minded and highly esteemed multi-instrumentalist whose music combined blues, jazz, and rock elements.

The title implies all watching, hinting to the mythological Greek Watchman Panoptes and opticon for watching. This original contemporary composition opens with an unassuming docile theme. The transparency is rapidly replaced with driving tutti components that furiously depict a vividly punctuated theme. Reminiscent passive melodies interrupt occasionally, building to an uncompromising conclusion. With a vivid percussion contribution, this energy-packed composition is unparalleled. Bravo! (5:30).

The 'Lullaby' to celebrate the first birthday of my son András forms the first melody of the Fruit Basket. This cycle of children's poems is full of humour and delicacy of feeling, sometimes even reminiscent of a grotesque, which makes such poems equally delightful for adults. There thus arose twelve melodies to match this cycle of very short songs with the following characteristics: the curious march of 'Kaspar' (Punch) the fabulous world of the 'Magic Box' the tenderness of 'Sunbeams' the sound of bells in 'Morning in the Village', where a cock crows and a donkey brays the tranquillity of the forest where 'Violets' are hidden. Abstraction and humour are found in the 'StoneFrog' charm in the lyricism of the 'Lullaby' gentleness in the sound of the 'Sleigh Bells'. In a watery world there reigns the 'Frog King' while the 'Little Elf' dances with the angels and the 'Hanswurst' (Harlequin) Serenade rings out in jocular and sad vein. Together a whole row of wonderful appearances all find their epitome in the concluding 'Midday-Cloud'. This work was originally written in 1946/47 the version for solo singer and wind quintet was composed in 1980. Until now it has been available only for hire, it is being released on to the market now for the first time.

Rock and jazz sounds mingle with classical tradition and modern techniques in Hause's virtuoso cello suite. In Fish Heaven, an arpeggiated texture reminiscent of Bach's cello suites expands along a quasi-Gospel chord progression. In Crabs on Parade, the contrapuntal technique of crab canon is rendered in a pizzicato texture drawing upon guitar technique. In five movements: 1. Man O' War, 2. Atlantis, 3. Sea Serpents, 4. Fish Heaven, 5. Crabs On Parade.

Programmatic music at its best, this work has a fast pace that will keep everyone on their toes. Masterfully conceived and written, this piece is very reminiscent of the Shostakovich classics that are revered in all band and orchestral libraries. Dramatic and exciting! (4:50).
